Extra £15 million fund to help students cope with cost of living
• The government has allocated £261 million in student premium funds to universities to help disadvantaged students cope with rising costs.
• The extra funding will supplement universities’ own bursary, scholarship and hardship support schemes.
• Data shows prolonged demand for additional financial support from universities among international students.
• Alex Proudfoot, CEO of Independent HE, said it was “disappointing” that the new funding would only be available to fee-cap registered institutions, rather than all providers approved by the Office for Students.
• Vivienne Stern, CEO of Universities UK, welcomed the new funding and said universities are working hard to offer much needed help to students.
