The University of Manchester

School/Directorate: Directorate of Equal, Diversity & Inclusion

The Directorate of Equal, Diversity & Inclusion at The University of Manchester is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and diverse community. With a student population of 46,000 and over 13,000 staff members from around the world, we take pride in our reputation as a leading institution in teaching and research. Our mission extends beyond academics, as we actively contribute to the social, educational, and cultural growth of Manchester and the wider region.

Since our establishment as England’s first civic university 200 years ago, we have remained committed to breaking barriers and improving lives. We strongly value our diversity, embracing the uniqueness of our community and the communities we serve. Our ultimate goal is to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels a sense of belonging and equity.

In light of this, we are seeking a highly qualified individual to join us as the Director of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI). In this role, you will assume leadership of the EDI agenda throughout the University, driving our ambition to be a sector leader in equality, diversity, and inclusion. As the Director of EDI, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our strategic direction, while inspiring and directing the work of the EDI Directorate.

The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in EDI management, having successfully developed and executed EDI strategies in large and complex organizations. You will possess the expertise needed to provide guidance on EDI matters to colleagues at all levels, and a proven track record of implementing measurable change. Additionally, you will demonstrate exceptional managerial skills, including the ability to effectively manage people and allocate resources. Cultural sensitivity is a must, as you will be entrusted with creating an inclusive and nurturing environment that allows everyone to fully participate.

Joining us at this time presents an exciting opportunity, as we eagerly anticipate the arrival of our new President and Vice Chancellor, Professor Duncan Ivison, in August 2024.
