UCL

About us:

UCL Global Engagement (GE) is dedicated to applying UCL’s expertise to make a positive impact on the world by supporting our Faculties in establishing global partnerships. Our team consists of highly skilled professionals with experience in providing global research and education support, as well as expertise in partnership development, geopolitical analysis, global communications, strategic planning, and operations. We are part of the Office of the UCL Vice-Provost (Research, Innovation & Global Engagement) – RIGE – which brings together various functions, services, and resources to support the UCL community and external partners. Our goal is to support people, foster collaboration, and create responsible impact at local, national, and international levels.

About the role:

Strategic Global Initiatives Managers (SGIM) oversee a range of ongoing programs and projects that aim to enhance global engagement within our Faculties and improve the supporting mechanisms across the institution. These programs and projects often involve multiple regions and stakeholders from various UCL departments. SGIMs collaborate closely with colleagues in GE, RIGE, and the wider UCL community. In addition to cross-regional initiatives, SGIMs also collaborate with Senior Global Engagement Managers to support major Faculty initiatives, complex projects, and regional activities. The responsibilities of SGIMs include proposal development, consultation organization, process design, business case preparation, working group coordination, advising Faculties on global opportunities, and ensuring the effective implementation of program/project outcomes. SGIMs need to have a deep understanding of international higher education and familiarize themselves with the specific contexts of UCL and our Faculties to continually improve the support provided by Global Engagement. Building strong relationships within UCL and with external organizations is an essential aspect of this role. The portfolio of programs and projects overseen by SGIMs will evolve over time to align with UCL, Faculty, and GE priorities. New initiatives will be determined in consultation with the GE Leadership Team. This role allows for hybrid working, with a minimum of 40% on-site presence, and fixed team collaboration days in the office on Wednesdays.

About you:

The SGIM role is best suited for candidates who are highly organized, creative, and effective communicators with a proven track record in project management within an international context. Given the complexity and novelty of the projects involved, candidates should have a solid understanding of global higher education policy, practice, and partnerships. The ability to quickly acquire knowledge in new areas and a willingness to take on new projects will be advantageous.
