The Agriculture and Food Development Authority - Teagasc

Location: The Animal and Grassland Research and Innovation Centre, Teagasc, Athenry, Co Galway, H65 R718; or another Teagasc Research Centre in Moorepark, Cork, or Ashtown, Dublin may be considered.

Job Type: Temporary Full Time

Basic Function:

The successful candidate will join the Department of Agri-Food Business and Spatial Analysis within Teagasc’s Rural Economy and Development Programme, which is based in Dublin and Galway. They will work closely with colleagues in the Pig Development Department at the Animal & Grassland Research and Innovation Centre in Cork. The candidate may be based in Athenry, Galway; Ashtown, Dublin; or Moorepark, Cork at the discretion of Teagasc management.

The candidate will be part of a Horizon Europe project (https://biosecure.eu/) on biosecurity of farm animals. They will collaborate with a diverse, international, multidisciplinary group of researchers on an EU level. The candidate will be responsible for integrating social and behavioural science-based perspectives into the project’s activities. They will also play a leading role in establishing and facilitating a multi-actor stakeholder forum to promote interactive knowledge exchange, encourage bottom-up behavioural change, and facilitate the adoption of Biosecure’s key exploitable results. While expertise in biosecurity is not essential, it would be beneficial. The researcher will have the opportunity to travel to other European countries to collaborate with project partners.

Person Specification:

Note: The “Essential” qualifications, skills, and knowledge listed below are necessary for the shortlisting process.

Essential Qualifications:
– Candidates must have a QQI honours Level 8 degree in social sciences, behavioural sciences, agricultural sciences, or a related discipline.

Desirable Qualifications:
– A postgraduate degree and/or research experience in social sciences, behavioural sciences, agricultural sciences would be an advantage.
– A PhD degree in a relevant discipline.
