Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, Florida International University, located in Miami, Florida.

Florida International University (FIU) is in search of a dynamic and visionary academic leader to fill the role of Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (Sr. ADAA) at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM). As the only public research university in Miami and the fifth largest public university in the nation by enrollment, FIU has been serving the South Florida region since 1972. With a student body of over 56,000 and an alumni network of nearly 300,000, the University recently completed a successful capital campaign, raising over $850 million.

FIU is classified as a Research 1 (R1) Very High Research University by Carnegie and is ranked among the top 10 Carnegie-ranked R1 institutions in research growth over the past decade. The university is recognized for its innovation, social mobility, and contributions to the public good. HWCOM, as a national leader, focuses on transforming communities’ health by integrating education, research, and clinical care. The college offers various programs including the Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree, combined degrees, Ph.D. programs, and international certificate programs.

The Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs will report to the Dean of HWCOM and will be responsible for overseeing academic programs and leadership within the College of Medicine. The Sr. ADAA will collaborate with program leaders to ensure the success of all academic programs, providing guidance, resources, and oversight. Key responsibilities include promoting academic excellence, overseeing program implementation, and evaluating innovations in line with the HWCOM strategic plan. Additionally, the Sr. ADAA will lead partnership initiatives, program development, and accreditation processes.

HWCOM is seeking a collaborative leader with expertise in graduate medical education, academic program management, and a commitment to excellence. The successful candidate will hold an MD or Ph.D. (an M.D./Ph.D. would be ideal) and have a minimum of five years of experience in academic leadership. Strong communication skills, the ability to work in a diverse environment, and a track record of fostering innovation and partnerships are essential qualities for this role.

The compensation for this position will be competitive, starting at $400,000 and aligned with AAMC market data. FIU offers excellent benefits to its employees.
