Job Description:

Job Summary:
The Laboratory Coordinator I, under general supervision, is responsible for supplying, maintaining, and organizing laboratory equipment. They also prepare materials and train teaching assistants.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
– Conduct research sessions and coordinate with researchers.
– Coordinate daily activities in the laboratory, including staff support and quality control.
– Assist in administering the lab software system.
– May assist in managing the participant (subject) pool by recruiting, screening, and maintaining records on research participants.
– Assist with longer-term lab organizational efforts.
– Prepare and set up research sessions, including drafting protocols and coordinating with IT support.
– Compensate participants for their participation in research sessions.
– Schedule lab space for research sessions.
– Maintain lab inventory, lab supplies, and other research equipment.
– Ensure adherence to lab standards and practices to maximize safety and operational effectiveness.

Additional Responsibilities:
– Work in a basic science teaching laboratory under BSL1 and BSL2 safety guidelines.
– Perform lab and prep room clean-up for all Biology teaching labs.
– Maintain inventory control, order, and stock supplies for teaching labs.
– Prepare solutions and reagents.
– Operate lab equipment.
– Assist in pedagogy development for teaching labs for biology courses.
– Organize adjuncts teaching lab courses.
– Carry out general laboratory maintenance on teaching labs and core facilities.
– Supervise graduate and undergraduate student workers.

Minimum Requirements:
– Education: Bachelor’s degree in Biology or related field.
– Experience: One year of related experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:
– Master’s degree preferred.

Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
– Word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications.

Ability to:
– Identify, assess, and solve problems.
– Multitask and work cooperatively with others.
– Communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding.

Preferred Knowledge and Abilities:
– Demonstrated background in standard chemical-analytical laboratory techniques and/or microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry techniques.
– Excellent laboratory, math, data handling, and computer skills.
– High level of organizational skills and accuracy in working.

Licensing/Professional Certification: None

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift light objects.

Supervision of Others:
This position generally supervises employees.

Other Requirements:
– Future employment may be contingent upon performance and future funding.
– Work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
– Position requires on-campus, face-to-face interactions.
– Position requires maintaining a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

Salary: $17.54/hourly
