Job Description:

Job Summary:
The Laboratory Coordinator I is responsible for supplying, maintaining, and organizing laboratory equipment, as well as preparing materials and training teaching assistants under general supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Conduct research sessions and coordinate with researchers.
2. Coordinate daily activities in the laboratory, including staff support and quality control.
3. Assist in administering the lab software system.
4. Assist in managing the participant pool by recruiting, screening, and maintaining records on research participants.
5. Assist with longer-term lab organizational efforts.
6. Prepare and set up research sessions, including drafting protocols and coordinating with IT support.
7. Compensate participants for their participation in research sessions.
8. Schedule lab space for research sessions.
9. Maintain lab inventory, lab supplies, and other research equipment.
10. Ensure adherence to lab standards and practices to maximize safety and operational effectiveness.

Additional Responsibilities:
1. Work in a basic science research laboratory under BSL1 and BSL2 safety guidelines.
2. Operate lab equipment.
3. Perform experimental procedures.
4. Collect and summarize research data.
5. Assist the Principal Investigator (PI) in conducting research, lab management, data collection, and analysis.
6. Assist the PI with lab management.
7. Assist with technical report writing and project research activities.
8. Support the PI and research assistants during experiments.
9. Carry out general laboratory maintenance.

Minimum Requirements:
Education – Bachelor’s degree in Biology or related field.
Experience – One year of related experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:
– Undergraduate research experience.
– Master’s degree in related field with wet lab research experience highly preferred.

Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
– Word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications.

Ability to:
– Identify, assess, and solve problems.
– Multitask and work cooperatively with others.
– Communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding.

Preferred Knowledge and Abilities:
– Demonstrated background in standard chemical-analytical laboratory techniques and/or microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry techniques.
– Excellent laboratory, math, data handling, and computer skills.
– High level of organization skills and accuracy in working.

Licensing / Professional Certification: None

Physical Requirements:
– Ability to lift light objects.

Supervision of Others:
This position generally supervises employees.

Other Requirements:
– This is a 1-year temporary grant-funded position.
– Future employment may be contingent upon performance and future funding.
– Work beyond normal office hours and/or on weekends.
– Position requires on-campus, face-to-face interactions.
– Position requires maintaining a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

Salary: $17.54 per hour
