Queensland Theatre Company
With a rich history spanning over 50 years, Queensland Theatre has established itself as a prominent institution in the Australian theatre scene, producing a diverse range of Australian, classic, contemporary, international, and theatrical works. Our team is motivated by a deep passion for our craft and a positive spirit that drives our mission. Currently, we are seeking an Education Producer to join our dedicated team and lead our drama education programs that foster the participation and development of young artists. This position requires a highly motivated individual who can manage the diverse operational demands of our organization while actively contributing to theatre-making and the arts.
As an Education Producer, you will work closely with the Associate Artistic Director (Education and Youth) to develop and produce education programs throughout Queensland. These programs aim to engage young artists, provide drama education support, and promote artistic development. Key aspects of the role include designing, producing, and delivering specific education drama programs and resources, coordinating in-school workshops and Artists in Residence programs (both metropolitan and regional), and facilitating teacher professional development activities. Additionally, the Education Producer will provide expert guidance on curriculum, pedagogy, and school engagement, cultivating strong relationships with the education sector and various stakeholders such as drama teachers, teaching artists, and artists across Queensland. This role also involves preparing teacher briefings, online resources, and post-show Q&A sessions to enhance program support. Furthermore, the Education Producer will ensure the implementation and communication of appropriate policies and practices to maintain a safe work environment for young participants and artists involved in education and youth projects.
To be successful in this role, you should hold relevant tertiary qualifications in Education, with a specialization in Drama being preferable. You must possess a minimum of five years’ experience working in an arts education role, particularly with young people, and demonstrate previous experience as a school drama teacher. A comprehensive understanding of the Australian Curriculum, particularly in Secondary Drama, English, and cross-curricular priorities, is essential. Excellent interpersonal skills, team leadership capabilities, and the ability to manage multiple projects within tight schedules are crucial. You should possess strong communication skills to effectively engage with a wide range of stakeholders. Demonstrated experience in project and program planning and delivery is necessary, as is a firm grasp of working with children standards and a dedication to providing a child-safe environment. The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently is important, alongside a genuine passion for the performing arts and a desire to nurture this passion in young people and their communities.
A Queensland Blue Card (working with children check) or equivalent Queensland Teachers check is a mandatory requirement for this role. Previous experience working in different education settings, such as metropolitan, regional, independent, and state schools, is desirable. Strong networks within Queensland Drama Educators and experience with a diverse age range, including primary, secondary, and early years curriculum, would also be advantageous. Additionally, experience in producing or theater-making is an asset.
As an applicant, you should be highly motivated, maintain a positive attitude, and possess self-direction skills. The ability to collaborate effectively in a busy environment and think creatively and analytically to achieve results is key. This role is a fixed-term part-time position with standard work hours of 30.4 hours per week (0.8 FTE).
