Job Description

The Global Experiences Office (GEO) is seeking a Director who will report directly to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Global Affairs. The Director will be responsible for overseeing all global experiential learning opportunities, including study abroad programs, sponsored by the University. As a member of the Global Affairs leadership team, the Director will play a crucial role in expanding global experiences for UNL students.

The Director will be expected to collaborate with faculty and staff within UNL units to develop and enhance global experiential learning programming. This includes aligning goals, streamlining processes, and creating strong programs. Building positive relationships and fostering trust and confidence between education abroad and internal and external stakeholders is a critical aspect of the role. The Director will also be responsible for promoting faculty engagement in global experiential learning and providing necessary support.

In collaboration with university academic leadership, the Director will create and implement all global experiences and education abroad policies and practices. The Director will handle contracts, negotiations, and maintain relationships with partner institutions and organizations. Additionally, the Director will work with the Director of Global Safety & Security to assess and mitigate fiscal risks related to program location, student enrollments, and political environments. Managing the Global Experiences Office budget and developing strategic plans for financial sustainability are also key responsibilities.

The successful candidate will represent UNL and GEO in national and international forums and promote UNL’s engagement within international education organizations. Some evening and weekend work, as well as travel, will be required.

Minimum qualifications for this position include a Master’s degree in a relevant field and a minimum of six years of leadership experience in education abroad within a higher education institution. Strong administrative management skills, including strategic planning and budgeting, are required. Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills and attention to detail are essential. The candidate must also have proficiency in public speaking, writing, and generating reports. Knowledge of business information systems and the ability to identify and mitigate cultural risks are necessary. The candidate should have experience fostering collaborative relationships across all organizational levels and knowledge of best practices in education abroad programming and assessment.

Preferred qualifications include knowledge of the grant writing process and proficiency in a foreign language other than English.
