The Hotel School Australia (THSA) is a distinctive partnership between Southern Cross University (SCU) and Mulpha Australia, a major stakeholder in the global hospitality, tourism, and hotel industry. THSA aims to cultivate future leaders in the hospitality, tourism, leisure, and luxury lifestyle sectors by offering the Bachelor of Business in Hotel Management and the Master of Business in Global Hotel Leadership, along with four nested courses, to both domestic and international fee-paying students. SCU is a registered Australian Public University and a Provider of Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) with the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA), allowing THSA to deliver the courses to students from all backgrounds.

With a 35-year track record since its establishment in 2024, THSA operates across four campuses in three states, making it the largest hospitality, leisure, and tourism program in Australia. The role of the Academic Coordinator is to enhance the quality and effectiveness of academic programs by coordinating curriculum development, managing class scheduling, supporting faculty development, and facilitating communication among stakeholders. The main objective is to optimize student learning outcomes and foster a positive academic environment within the institution.

The Academic Coordinator is responsible for effectively administering academic activities across various key areas. This includes collaborating with casual teaching academics to review and develop course materials, participating in course content review, monitoring individual student and cohort progress, evaluating student and faculty performance, facilitating the transition and retention of first-year students, developing class timetabling, and ensuring compliance with technology protocols and policies.

The Academic Coordinator must possess a PhD or equivalent experience in teaching or a related higher education operation field. They should have knowledge of the Australian higher education sector and its regulatory framework for domestic and international students. Strong interpersonal skills, negotiation abilities, and proficiency in data analysis and interpretation are required. The ability to manage oneself and others in delivering higher education services, along with proactive and positive attitudes, are essential. Excellent coordination and organizational skills, as well as a commitment to equity and cultural diversity, are also desired.
