10 Things to Know About Fulbright and Chevening Programs

1. The Fulbright Program is the US government’s flagship international educational exchange program and has sponsored over 400,000 Fulbrighters from the US and 165 countries since 1946.

2. In the latest academic year, Georgetown had the most Fulbright participants with 49, followed by Princeton University with 36 and Brown University with 30.

3. 25 new institutions were added to the 2022/23 Fulbright top producing institutions list, which underscores the program’s dedication to inclusive growth and institutional diversity.

4. Salisbury University led the masters category with nine students selected, Bowdoin College in Maine led the baccalaureate category with 19 and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago led the Special-Focus institutions category with two.

5. The 174 schools included in the list feature institutions across 35 states and the District of Columbia, with New York the most represented of any state with 22 institutions.

6. Harvard University topped the research institutions category with 36 participants and SUNY College at Geneseo led among masters institutions with seven.

7. Chevening is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. It was initially announced in 1984 under the ‘Pym package’ and supported 100 scholars per year.

8. The Chevening program was renamed in 1994 after the official residence of the UK foreign secretary in Sevenoaks.

9. Bates College in Maine and Oberlin College in Ohio both saw 15 Fulbright students and scholars in 2022/23.

10. The 2024/25 Fulbright US Scholar Competition opens in mid-February.
