**Position Title: Vice Chancellor/Provost for Global Affairs and Senior International Affairs Officer**

**Job Description:**
The Vice Chancellor/Provost for Global Affairs leads and orchestrates the strategic efforts to enhance the global outreach and partnerships of the SUNY System across its multiple campuses, aligning these initiatives with the broader vision and strategy put forth by the Provost and the Chancellor. This role at the system level enables high-impact international engagements and formulates system-wide agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) for campuses to adapt and develop their localized global programs. The Vice Chancellor is key in collaborating with campus-level international affairs offices to bolster global initiatives aligned with each campus’s unique objectives, while ensuring a cohesive approach to making a global impact.
**Primary Responsibilities:**
*System-Level Strategy and Coordination:*
– Manage all facets of global affairs within SUNY System Administration, including overseeing International Programs within the Office of Global Affairs (OGA).
– Spearhead the formulation and execution of the global component within SUNY’s strategic plan, drawing insights from students, faculty, staff, and international partners.
– Collaborate with the Office of Enrollment Management and campuses to boost international student enrollments at both undergraduate and graduate levels, enriching academic and research experiences.
– Work jointly with the Office of Research, the Research Foundation, and campuses to enhance sponsored research in partnership with international collaborators.
– Set and monitor key performance indicators to assess progress, making course adjustments as necessary based on continual analysis of SUNY’s global endeavors.
*High-Level Partnerships and MOUs:*
– Identify, negotiate, and manage system-wide MOUs and partnerships with international universities, research bodies, and governmental entities.
– Facilitate major engagements and agreements framing opportunities for campuses to tailor programs meeting specific academic and research goals.
– Collaborate with campus leaders, offering leadership, policy guidance, data collection, best practices, and risk management to support campus-level global endeavors.
*Approval and Program Oversight:*
– Act as the Chancellor’s proxy for approving education abroad and exchange programs.
– Partner with the Office of Academic Programs and Planning and the Provost to review and ensure quality in joint/dual degree and other academic programs involving international study.
*Representation and Advocacy:*
– Represent SUNY System in international arenas, including engagements with foreign institutions, international entities, and professional bodies within the United States.
– Cultivate and maintain relationships with international partners, governments, and academic bodies to advocate for policies and partnerships benefiting all SUNY campuses.
*Campus Engagement and Collaboration:*
– Foster ongoing communications with SUNY campuses through regular site visits and consultations, both domestically and internationally.
– Lead strategic discussions to establish new collaborative or dual academic programs with international partners, guiding campuses in identifying and capitalizing on global prospects that align with their mission.
*Risk Management and Compliance:*
– Develop and administer an international risk management plan to ensure SUNY’s global programs meet legal and safety standards diligently.
**Requirements:**
*Minimum Qualifications:*
– **Education:** Master’s degree in international relations, higher education, public policy, or a related field.
– **Experience:** A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in global affairs and international partnerships within higher education or in close affiliation, including substantial understanding of policy considerations and emerging trends in international education.
– **Skills:** Demonstrated leadership and collaborative abilities with diverse teams, comprising individuals from varied national and cultural backgrounds.
*Preferred Qualifications:*
– **International Experience:** Significant experience living, working, or executing projects outside the United States, with deep cultural acumen.
– **Government and Policy Background:** Experience in a government capacity, such as the U.S. State Department, with a concentration on foreign relations or diplomacy.
– **Academic and Curriculum Development Experience:** Academic background with experience in partnership development, curriculum creation, and management within international contexts.
– **Multilingual Proficiency:** Professional fluency in one or more languages beyond English.

– **Project Management and Execution:** Strong organizational skills with a track record in managing complex, large-scale projects across multiple institutional and international settings.
– **Data-Driven Decision Making:** Skillful in setting and tracking metrics to assess and enhance global initiatives, making data-informed course adjustments as needed.
– **Flexibility and Adaptability:** Readiness and ability to travel extensively, including evenings and weekends, to establish and sustain global partnerships and engage with SUNY campuses and international programs.
**Additional Information:**
– Salary for this position ranges from $175,000 to $250,000, influenced by factors including experience, education, training, and certifications.
– The role demands extensive travel, often requiring work during evenings and weekends, to foster and maintain global partnerships and engage with SUNY campuses and international initiatives.
– **Benefits Package:** Comprehensive package includes NYS health insurance, free dental and vision coverage, competitive retirement choices, tuition assistance, full-pay parental leave, and generous vacation, sick, and holiday leave. 13 annual paid holidays, along with accrual of 21 vacation and 21 sick days per year.
