University of Cambridge

Join something extraordinary
Are you passionate about the transformative power of community engagement in museums? Are you excited about the opportunity to work with nine world-class collections? Do you have experience in collaborative work with various audiences? The University of Cambridge Museums and Botanic Garden (UCM) hold an unparalleled collection of over five million works of art, artefacts, and specimens, making it the UK’s highest concentration of internationally-important collections outside London. For almost three centuries, these collections have been at the forefront of research and exploration of our world. Today, they bring together people from all corners of the globe to delve into profound questions, spanning from the origins of life to the future of our planet. Together, we seek to deepen our understanding of the world, inspire innovative thinking, and address local and global challenges.
From 2023 to 2026, we will be embarking on Collections in Action, a major collaborative public program funded by Arts Council England. This initiative builds upon our longstanding commitment to community engagement, exemplified by our previous program, Power and Memory (2020-23), which focused on the legacies of empire and enslavement.
As a member of the UCM Partnerships Team, the Community Participation Coordinator will work across the UCM to facilitate consultation and engagement with communities and partners. You will build upon existing relationships and establish new connections with community collaborators. Your role will involve supporting and enabling dialogues and engagement with our diverse partners and audiences, facilitating how we involve community collaborators and amplify their voices in our collections and public programs.
We are searching for someone who has practical and demonstrable experience in collaborative work with a range of audiences, including adults, young people, and families. Excellent communication skills that cater to individuals from diverse backgrounds are essential. Proficiency in software packages such as Word and Excel, along with strong time management skills, is also important.
In return, we offer a nurturing and supportive environment, an attractive pension scheme, generous holiday allowance, and various employee benefits, including a shopping discount scheme.
To promote the professional and personal development of our staff, we have adopted a hybrid working system. This allows staff to divide their time between in-person collaboration and remote work. The frequency of remote work can be discussed and agreed upon with your line manager.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check and a security check.
We welcome applications from individuals who are interested in part-time or other flexible working arrangements.
Interviews for this role will be conducted in the week commencing October 23rd, 2023.
