The Immigration Manager at the Center for Global Health oversees and provides services to international students and scholars in areas such as immigration advising for students and scholars, and employment guidance. This role acts as a subject matter expert on immigration sponsorship for employment, scholars, and students, ensuring compliance with federal laws, university policies, and best practices at MUSC. The position entails serving as the Designated School Official (DSO) for F-1 students and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for the J-1 Exchange Visitor Program, acting as a liaison with the Department of Labor, Department of State, Department of Homeland Security, and their subsidiary agencies. It requires maintaining an advanced understanding of the constantly evolving regulations, legislation, policies, and issues, while assessing and communicating the impact on campus-wide visa and immigration procedures. Additional responsibilities may be assigned, with potential for a hybrid work schedule in Charleston.

**30% Students & Scholars Advising & Case Management**

– Provide guidance to international students and scholars on regulatory and administrative matters related to their immigration status, covering areas such as visa procedures, maintaining legal status, employment, extensions, status changes, travel regulations, financial needs, and dependent issues.
– Act as the primary advisor and contact for MUSC departments regarding immigration matters for prospective, incoming, and currently sponsored international students and scholars.
– Fulfill duties as DSO and ARO by preparing I-20s, DS-2019s, offering J-1 and F-1 advising, and meeting reporting requirements mandated by federal law.
– Oversee the processes, assessments, and reporting linked to immigration sponsorship.

**30% Employment Advising**

– Facilitate employer-sponsored visa procedures, including processes for H-1B, J-1 visa waivers, O-1, TN, E-3, and permanent residency petitions, by reviewing and interpreting immigration documents, letters, and regulations relevant to hiring international faculty and staff.
– Draft, review, and submit necessary forms for employer-sponsored visas; track the progress of immigration cases, continually optimizing regulatory compliance and process efficiency.
– Offer guidance and consultative support to international faculty, staff, scholars, and sponsoring departments regarding compliance issues and the preparation, processing, and maintenance of documents for immigration sponsorship requests related to employment.
– Provide information to MUSC-sponsored international faculty and scholars, as well as hosting unit staff and faculty, on federal regulations and university policies that affect international academics and their dependents.

**30% Operations & Administration**

– Innovate immigration business processes to maximize the potential of case management software; develop and implement workflows, practices, and systems to improve compliance, reporting, services, and communications.
– Oversee immigration case processing software, monitor regulatory updates, and adjust operational practices and materials as needed.
– Prepare statistical reporting data for both internal and external purposes, and develop and deliver training and educational resources.

**10% ECFMG Training Program Liaison**

– Act as the Training Program Liaison for J-1 Alien Physicians with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), providing guidance and advice to Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs on the overall process and timeline, including necessary regulatory and compliance requirements.
