Website THE EUROPAEUM

OVERVIEW The Executive Director of The Europaeum is the senior leader of a distinctive network that brings together leading European universities to promote cross-border intellectual exchange. Based in the United Kingdom, this role combines strategic leadership, external representation, and operational oversight in a highly international academic environment. The position is well suited to an experienced international education professional who can navigate diverse institutional cultures while advancing shared European academic priorities. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Lead The Europaeum as an organisation, providing overall direction and coordination for its activities. – Represent The Europaeum to academic leaders, funders, and policymakers, acting as the primary external voice of the network. – Work closely with member universities to support collaboration and alignment across the network. – Oversee partnerships that strengthen cross-border academic exchange and cooperation. – Lead and manage fundraising efforts to sustain and develop the organisation’s work. – Oversee programmes that support European doctoral scholars and wider academic collaboration. REQUIREMENTS WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS This role matters because The Europaeum operates at the intersection of higher education, research collaboration, and European dialogue. Effective leadership ensures that scholars and institutions can continue to work across borders at a time when international academic cooperation requires strong coordination and advocacy. The Executive Director plays a key role in sustaining networks that contribute to doctoral development, intellectual exchange, and long-term academic relationships across Europe. BONUS: APPLICATION ADVICE – Emphasise your experience working across multiple universities or international partners, particularly where coordination and consensus-building were essential. – Highlight any senior-level leadership roles that demonstrate your ability to represent an organisation to external stakeholders such as funders, policymakers, or academic leaders. – Clearly articulate your understanding of European higher education collaboration and why cross-border academic networks are important in the current context. – Provide concrete examples of fundraising, partnership development, or programme oversight that align with the responsibilities described. – Tailor your application language to reflect both strategic leadership and hands-on management, showing you can operate at institutional and network levels. – Ensure your materials demonstrate strong communication skills and cultural awareness, as these are critical for working effectively with diverse member universities.
