**Assistant Professor Position in Structural Engineering at FIU**

**Faculty Position Announcement**

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Florida International University (FIU) is seeking applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Structural Engineering, with a specialization in Bridge Engineering. The anticipated start date is Spring 2025. This role is part of a strategic initiative to enhance FIU’s bridge engineering expertise.

**Research and Facilities**

In 2013, the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) funded a Tier One University Transportation Center (UTC) at FIU, dedicated to Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC). Continued funding from the U.S. DOT in 2023 established the Innovative Bridge Engineering/Accelerated Bridge Construction UTC (IBT/ABC-UTC) at FIU. Supported by private industry and various transportation agencies, the CEE department undertakes significant bridge engineering research through its University Transportation Center. The department features advanced facilities, including the Titan America Structures and Construction Testing Laboratory and The Wall of Wind (WOW) research facility, one of seven labs designated as “Experimental Facilities” by the National Science Foundation’s Natural Hazards Engineering Research Infrastructure (NHERI) program.

**Qualifications**

Applicants should have a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a related discipline. Completion of the Ph.D. by the time of employment is mandatory. Candidates must demonstrate strong research and scholarship excellence. Industrial experience and registration as a Professional Engineer in Florida (or the ability to obtain licensure within four years) are preferred. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in structural engineering, mentoring graduate students, and establishing an externally funded research program. Collaborative relationships with funding agencies will be advantageous.

**Research Focus**

The successful candidate will collaborate with ongoing research at IBT/ABC-UTC, complement existing expertise, and focus on advanced materials, corrosion engineering, prestressed concrete, automation in bridge engineering, and applications of emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence in bridge engineering.
