THE DEPARTMENT

The Office of Study Abroad at Cal Poly Pomona supports international initiatives by leading student and faculty mobility programs, including Exchange, CSU IP, and Faculty-led Programs. The department also oversees the International Student and Scholar Services Office, which ensures SEVIS compliance. Through its programs, the Office of Study Abroad promotes global citizenship, cultural competencies, and diversity on campus.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

– Coordinate with faculty, staff, and management to explain, promote, educate, and assist with study abroad opportunities, processes, and funding options
– Develop and deliver informational and educational orientations for students, including predeparture and risk management sessions
– Ensure compliance with campus travel policies and negotiate contracts with travel vendors and procurement office
– Work with partner institutions to ensure proper student enrollment, course selection, housing, and travel documents
– Collaborate with relevant campus offices to promote and facilitate international education
– Facilitate the course approval process and track student payments, vendor accounts, and insurance compliance
– Correspond with students regarding application procedures, enrollment, travel documents, and visas for Faculty-Led Programs
– Provide study abroad advising and coordination for CSU IP, exchange, and independent programs
– Assist with application processing, class scheduling, housing options, and campus orientation for inbound exchange students
– Ensure timely delivery of acceptance documents and DS-2019
– Inform students and sending institutions of CPP policies, deadlines, and regulations; process grades and transcripts
– Market and outreach study abroad programs on campus
– Conduct outreach to promote programs to academic colleges and departments and create new programs
– Create newsletters, flyers, email blasts, social media updates, and website content
– Collaborate with CPGE marketing for brochure design and other materials
– Coordinate annual study abroad fair and other alumni events
– Conduct regular study abroad information meetings for students
– Conduct program evaluations and utilize data to improve future programs

QUALIFICATIONS

– Bachelor’s degree in a related field, supplemented by upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution
– Three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience, or a master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience
– Thorough knowledge of individual and group behavior principles
– General knowledge of Student Services field and program area policies and procedures
– Ability to analyze complex situations and advise students
– Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
– Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural
