Job Overview: Study Abroad Coordinator

St Mary’s University is seeking a Study Abroad Coordinator to oversee and enhance the experience of students participating in its study abroad programs, particularly those coming from the US, Australia, and the Far East. A key part of this role is managing the university’s important relationship with the University of Arizona and its international arm, UA Global. Based on our beautiful campus in southwest London, the role combines administrative, organisational, and liaison responsibilities to ensure the success of the study abroad program, supporting students in their global education journey while strengthening international academic partnerships.

The university is proud of its rich heritage, inspired by its Catholic mission and values of excellence, inclusiveness, respect, and generosity of spirit. As part of the community, the Study Abroad Coordinator will play a significant role in ensuring these values are upheld to create an enriching and inclusive academic environment for all participants.

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about international education, thrives in a vibrant academic setting, and is committed to fostering cross-cultural collaboration. If you are enthusiastic about helping students expand their global perspective and supporting their academic ambitions, this could be the opportunity for you.

Key Advice to Applicants:

To stand out for this role in the context of international education, here are some suggestions:

  1. Emphasise International Collaboration and Awareness:

Mention your experience working within international education settings or across cultures. Demonstrating an understanding of the benefits and complexities of study abroad programs-such as navigating cultural differences, supporting students in transition, and working with global institutions-will showcase your suitability for this role.

  1. Showcase Your Organisational and Administrative Expertise:

Highlight your ability to manage multiple administrative tasks, meet tight deadlines, and maintain attention to detail. In the study abroad context, these skills are vital for ensuring that student applications, schedules, and agreements between international partners are efficiently handled.

  1. Communication Skills are Essential:

As a key liaison between departments at St Mary’s University and partners such as UA Global, you will need excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Share examples of where you have successfully communicated with diverse stakeholders in previous roles-both internally and externally, or internationally.

  1. Passion for Study Abroad Experiences:

Demonstrate enthusiasm for the transformative power of studying abroad by reflecting this passion in your cover letter. Whether you’ve participated in study abroad yourself, worked with international students, or supported global education initiatives, be sure to show how these experiences have shaped your commitment to international education.

  1. Understand UK Higher Education and Immigration:

Share your knowledge, if applicable, of the UK’s higher education landscape and immigration requirements for international students. This will allow you to better support students arriving from other countries and navigate processes efficiently.

  1. Contribute to the University’s Culture and Mission:

Show an understanding of the university’s ethos and values, particularly its Catholic mission and dedication to inclusivity. Reflect on how these values resonate with your professional experience or personal perspective.
