In this role, the Student Success Centre Manager (SSC) is responsible for leading a team of academic advisors who provide timely assistance and support to students in need. This includes both group and one-on-one advice sessions. The SSC Manager must also monitor student progression in alignment with our Academic Progression Policy and Support for Students Framework, ensuring additional support is available when necessary. Additionally, the position involves offering non-academic support to students with accessibility, medical, or wellbeing needs, as well as survivors of sexual harm or family/domestic violence, and Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students. This support aims to improve student participation, retention, and overall success.
The SSC Manager will collaborate with various stakeholders within the institution, including senior management, academics, and administration staff. Examples of responsibilities include managing academic support for all students, regardless of their mode of study or location; integrating wellbeing and mental health resilience into the student experience through workshops and resources; leading the Wellness team and participating in various meetings and committees; coordinating wellness events for different communities; collaborating with the Operations team to ensure staff are well-informed about available student support; maintaining external connections to stay informed about current issues in the higher education sector; assisting with staff and student induction and orientation; monitoring student progression and implementing intervention strategies for “At Risk” students; and managing and providing support through the Peer Assisted Learning Service (PALS).
Essential attributes for this role include experience in creating an inclusive environment for people with accessibility needs in a higher education context, a degree preferably in Education or Teaching (or equivalent industry/training experience), the ability to understand and coordinate adjustments for individuals with accessibility needs, the ability to lead and advise international and domestic students in tertiary education, knowledge of the dynamics of the private higher education industry, a working with children check (WWCC), superior relationship management skills, and the ability to engage with stakeholders at various levels within the institution.
Desirable attributes include leadership experience in academic management, qualifications in a relevant discipline such as Social or Community work or Counselling/Psychology, and knowledge and/or experience in student engagement and support services.
