Within OVPIA, the Office of International Services (OIS) focuses specifically on assisting international students and scholars. Our team recruits, admits, and enrolls students from all around the world. We offer a range of services, including social and cultural programming, visa and immigration advising, and other forms of support. Job Summary:
Department-Specific Responsibilities:
– Advise IU hiring units on various visa options for international faculty, staff, and visitors, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
General Responsibilities:
– Provide guidance and counsel to international faculty, researchers, staff, and visitors on all aspects of their stay at IU, interpreting complex U.S. immigration laws.
– Develop and maintain expertise in U.S. laws and regulations related to international scholars and employees.
– Serve as a liaison with local and state government agencies, such as the Department of Labor, Department of Homeland Security, and Department of State.
– Act as an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for the U.S. Department of State Exchange Visitor Program.
Qualifications:
Combinations of relevant education and experience will be considered. Additional education may be substituted for work experience, and vice versa.
Education:
– Bachelor’s degree (preferably in a related field).
Preferred:
– Master’s degree.
Work Experience:
– 2 years of experience in international advising or services.

Working Conditions / Demands:
This role requires effective communication skills and proficiency in operating a computer and standard office equipment. The position involves a combination of sedentary work and mobility within an office environment and on campus.
The individual in this role must be authorized as an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) by the Department of State (DOS). AROs must meet DOS requirements, including U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residence.
The person in this role must be able to perform essential functions with or without accommodation.

Work Location:
Bloomington, Indiana.
During the probationary period, this position will be in-person. However, it may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule (remote and in-person) depending on department needs and subject to university policy and business requirements.
Advertised Salary:
$48,000 to $52,000 per year.
