The Senior International Student and Scholar Services Advisor I is an experienced professional who provides advanced-level support and guidance to international students and scholars at the University of Texas at San Antonio. This role requires extensive knowledge of immigration regulations and effective cross-cultural communication. The Senior Advisor plays a crucial role in ensuring compliance with U.S. immigration laws, supporting international students and scholars, and creating a welcoming campus environment.

Core Responsibilities:

– Provide expert immigration advice to international students and scholars.
– Give guidance on complex student immigration matters, such as F-1/J-1 visa applications, extensions, reinstatements, and employment authorization (CPT, OPT, AT).
– Provide guidance on scholar immigration matters, including J-1/H1B/TN/O1/etc. visa applications, change of status petitions, amendment petitions, and extension petitions.
– Interpret and apply immigration policies and regulations to ensure institutional compliance.
– Work with campus stakeholders to develop orientation programs for new international students and visiting scholars.
– Assist the Director with managing and reporting Scholar SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) records for international students and scholars.
– Ensure institutional compliance with SEVIS regulations by maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
– Provide high-level support and crisis intervention for international students, scholars, and their dependents dealing with emergencies, legal issues, or personal challenges.
– Collaborate with relevant campus departments and external resources to offer comprehensive assistance.
– Maintain detailed and confidential records related to international students, scholars, immigration documents, and advising sessions.
– Prepare complex reports and documentation as required by regulatory agencies and institutional policies.
– Stay informed about changes in immigration regulations and policies, and develop training materials and resources for the university’s international community.
– Provide guidance to institutional departments on matters concerning international students and scholars.
– Train and support International Student and Scholar Advisors I, II, and other student associates who assist the department.
