Hours: Full Time or Part Time (minimum 0.8 FTE)
Location: Polaris House, Swindon, Wiltshire (hybrid working)
Job Purpose:
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading allocated activities within AHRC’s Programmes division on Infrastructure. This includes overseeing the development and implementation of funding schemes and initiatives, as well as focusing on strategic areas within the infrastructure portfolio. Collaboration with other Team Heads and Senior Investment Managers within and across AHRC teams is essential to coordinate activities effectively. The role also involves providing input into the strategic direction of the team and research programmes, managing existing schemes, and developing and delivering new initiatives.
The candidate will be in charge of developing, delivering, and evaluating projects within AHRC’s Infrastructure portfolio, with a specific emphasis on advancing AHRC’s Digital Research Infrastructure programme, which supports digital and data-intensive research. Additionally, the role entails contributing to and developing new strategic activities to support wider corporate endeavors, working closely with colleagues across AHRC and other Research Councils.
Main Outputs & Activities:
- Manage engagement with other teams within AHRC, other Councils within UKRI, and the external research community
- Provide proactive support for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting information to understand and communicate the value and impact of AHRC funded research
- Take overall responsibility for delivering funding schemes and programmes managed by the team, including budget management
- Supervise an Investment Manager within the Infrastructure team, including absence and performance management and HR liaison
- Contribute to the development and prioritization of team goals and support their implementation by effectively managing staff and resources
- Lead, manage, or support strategic projects and project teams as required (e.g., change programs, strategy/policy development, new initiatives, partnerships)
- Represent the team/division on internal steering groups within AHRC and UKRI as necessary
Person Specification:
- Working knowledge of digital research infrastructure or digital/data-intensive research
- A good understanding of the UK higher education system or experience in higher education administration, research administration, the heritage sector, digital humanities, the creative industries, or a similar environment
- Experience in developing and leading successful large-scale projects and programs of work, including budget management
- Ability to establish productive relationships internally and externally, across all levels of seniority and sectors (academic, policy, and wider sectors) nationally and internationally
- Problem-solving skills, creativity, and the ability to make effective decisions, even in challenging situations
- Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team
- Capability to initiate and maintain productive working relationships and partnerships internally and externally to AHRC
