**Position Summary:**
The Senior International Scholar Advisor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill plays a crucial role in supporting the recruitment and retention of distinguished international faculty and scholars, aligning with the university’s mission in research, teaching, and service. As the team leader of the International Scholar Advisor Team within ISSS, this position is integral to the employment decisions concerning non-resident alien candidates.

Responsibilities include training and mentoring current and prospective international scholar advisors, consulting on complex employment cases, and serving as the Alternate Responsible Officer for the University’s Exchange Visitor Program (J-1). Duties entail preparing DS-2019 certificates, J-1 advising, and managing related reports. Additionally, the advisor will handle H-1B, O-1, TN, E-3, and other nonimmigrant employment petitions, with more complex immigrant cases assigned as necessary.

As a Designated School Official (DSO), the advisor will prepare I-20s, provide F-1 advising, and ensure compliance with federal reporting mandates. The role involves coordination with various federal agencies, including DHS, DOL, DOS, USCIS, ICE, SEVP, and CBP, to support UNC’s international scholars.

The Senior International Scholar Advisor will offer guidance to international faculty and scholars regarding government regulations and university policies, work closely with faculty and staff to ensure adherence to federal laws and regulations, and lead the development of online procedural materials for campus use.

Key responsibilities also include tracking regulatory updates, implementing changes to processes, updating the International Scholar website, and distributing informational materials. The advisor will develop and deliver training sessions for international faculty, visiting scholars, and other stakeholders, provide referrals for personal matters, and participate in ISSS programming events. Additional duties may be assigned to support office functions.

**Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:**
A relevant post-Baccalaureate degree (or foreign equivalent) is required. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) and three or more years of relevant experience may be considered. This experience should pertain to directing programs that align with the academic and research goals of a higher education institution.

**Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:**
Candidates must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents to act as an Alternate Responsible Officer and Designated School Official in SEVIS. A comprehensive understanding of regulations governing nonimmigrant classifications, including H-1B, O-1, TN, E-3, and J-1 Exchange Visitors, is necessary. Proficiency in researching and elucidating U.S. immigration and labor regulations, especially in a higher education context, is essential. The role demands effective communication with cultural sensitivity, teamwork, initiative, discretion, and precision. Experience with databases and immigration case management is required, along with familiarity with F student regulations.

**Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:**
Preferably, candidates should have 3-5 years of experience managing immigration cases within a four-year university setting.

**Special Physical/Mental Requirements:**
Candidates must consistently report to work in person and demonstrate composure under job pressures.

**Campus Security Authority Responsibilities:**
