
British Geological Survey
The British Geological Survey (BGS) is seeking senior staff to join our Groundwater team. We welcome applications from seasoned hydrogeologists and scientists engaged in groundwater-related fields who are eager to work with us and leverage their expertise to contribute to meeting societal needs for a sustainable future. Further details about the BGS Strategy can be found here. These roles may be based either in Nottingham or Edinburgh. Appointments will be made at the UKRI Pay Band E/S2, with an annual salary ranging from £48,802 to £53,682 dependent on qualifications and experience (pending pay award).

Positions are available for both full-time (37 hours per week) and part-time roles, with some flexible and remote working options available in alignment with BGS policy. These are permanent positions, with three roles on offer.
**About Our Groundwater Team:**
The BGS is recognized nationally and internationally by stakeholders as an authoritative source of data, information, and unbiased advice on groundwater resources. Our organization is renowned globally for conducting impactful research on groundwater resources, particularly its significance in water security, climate change adaptation, and its implications for human health and livelihoods. Within the UK, the BGS leads numerous projects that address groundwater quality, quantity, and flow on various scales, from local to national, to tackle challenges related to water security and energy transition.
As a part of our team, you will apply your expertise in scientific and technical skills to develop and execute BGS research projects. Your involvement will span various projects and tasks, including:
– Utilizing specialist hydrogeology, numerical, and geoscience skills to collaboratively contribute to and lead BGS research projects.
– Leading teams and projects in hydrogeological data collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting.
– Composing and delivering publications, presentations, and funding proposals.
– Building engagement and collaboration with both internal and external partners and clients, including international ones.
– Actively participating in the groundwater science community through research publications and conference presentations.
– Managing projects and team members.

– Possession of a PhD with a substantial focus on hydrogeology or water resource science, or a Master’s degree in hydrogeology or a closely related field, with extensive postgraduate experience in a hydrogeology research setting. (S, I)
