Queen Mary University of London

### About the Role

Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) is a global institution known for its extensive international collaborations, which form a significant part of its research efforts. QMUL stands out for the scale and diversity of its global partnerships, the variety of funding sources it taps into, and the notable impact its research and innovation have on communities worldwide. Strengthening international research collaborations is a key priority under the University Strategy 2030.

The International Research and Innovation Team at QMUL’s Joint Research and Management Office oversees international research partnerships and bid development, research security and compliance, and provides pre- and post-award support for EU and international research collaborations across all three Faculties.

Acknowledging the dynamic and complex nature of international collaborations, coupled with growing governmental and funder focus on national security, we are looking to appoint a Research Security and Compliance Manager. This role will lead a team in identifying and mitigating risks associated with international collaborations, ensuring compliance with UK legislation and funder requirements.

### About You

The appointee will manage a vital and constantly evolving aspect of the University’s international research. They will support the Head of International Research and Innovation in developing policies and guidelines to ensure QMUL’s adherence to UK Export Control and security legislation, as well as oversee security compliance for international research projects.

As a member of the JRMO management team, the postholder will have the opportunity to grow and develop the Research Security team. They will lead efforts to advise Faculties on due diligence cases, export licensing applications, and NSI notifications, and will also develop University training programs focused on risks in international research.

While the primary focus will be on international research, the role may also encompass other areas such as education and technology commercialization, where relevant international collaboration issues are present. The postholder will collaborate with colleagues in other Professional Service teams, including the Global Engagement Office, Academic Registry, Business Development, and QM Innovation.
