Florida International University is a public research university that is classified by Carnegie as an R1: Doctoral Universities – Highest Research Activity. The university offers a wide range of academic programs, including 196 bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs in fields such as engineering, computer science, international relations, architecture, law, and medicine. It is also recognized as a Carnegie engaged university.
As one of South Florida’s anchor institutions, FIU contributes nearly $9 billion to the local economy each year. In addition, FIU is a member of Conference USA and has over 400 student-athletes participating in 18 different sports.
The university is currently seeking a Research Scientist for its Adam Smith Center for Economic Freedom. The Research Scientist will be responsible for conducting research on the impact of administrative bureaucracies on small businesses and micro-enterprises in Latin America. This research will focus on the bureaucratic procedures required to keep these companies operating legally. The Research Scientist will work under the direction of the Center director and collaborate with research groups across disciplines.
Minimum qualifications for the position include a doctoral degree and one year of relevant experience. Desired qualifications include being bilingual, having experience working and building relationships in Latin America and the Caribbean, and research experience in international business development and governmental regulations.
The salary range for this position is $70,000 to $80,000. The work schedule is from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional evening and weekend work and the ability to travel locally, nationally, and internationally as needed.
