Cardiff University

The Wales Centre for Public Policy is a collaboration between the Welsh Government, the Economic and Social Research Council, and Cardiff University. Our goal is to bridge the gap between academic research and policy makers/practitioners by generating and mobilising evidence that improves policy decisions and public services. Our diverse staff come from various backgrounds, including academia, the civil service, health service, local government, think tanks, and the voluntary sector.

As a member of the UK’s What Works network and the International Public Policy Observatory, we work with leading researchers from the UK and internationally to address pressing economic, environmental, and social challenges. Our staff have excellent access to senior policy makers and public service leaders, enabling them to have a national and local impact.

We are currently seeking an exceptional individual to contribute to our work with the International Public Policy Observatory. This role offers a unique opportunity to manage and conduct high-quality policy research, working closely with renowned researchers and policy makers involved in current policy developments and debates, such as achieving net-zero, addressing socio-economic and spatial inequalities, and supporting recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.

To be successful in this role, you must have a good understanding of public policy, the ability to work directly with public service leaders, a commitment to high-quality policy relevant research, excellent communication and organisational skills, and the ability to work effectively with our wider team.

This is a full-time position available from September 1, 2023, until March 1, 2025, with the possibility of renewal based on further funding. We offer a stimulating and supportive working environment with flexible working arrangements, a generous university pension scheme, extensive training opportunities, and a base in the new Social Science Research Park (SPARK) located on Cardiff’s Innovation Campus.

We support hybrid working and expect the successful candidate to be able to work from our Cardiff offices two days per week. Potential applicants are encouraged to contact Professor Steve Martin or Dan Bristow for an informal discussion about the role.

We will also consider applications for secondment basis for a minimum of 12 months.

This is a full-time position (35 hours per week) advertised on a fixed-term basis until March 31, 2025. The salary ranges from £39,347 to £44,263 per annum (Grade 6).

The closing date for applications is Monday, August 28, 2023.

Cardiff University is dedicated to promoting equality and diversity and creating an inclusive working environment. We believe in attracting, developing, and retaining staff from diverse backgrounds who share our ambition to contribute to Cardiff, Wales, and the wider world. We also support work-life balance and are open to proposals for flexible working or job share arrangements
