Salary: Grade 7 £32,982 – £37,099 per annum pro rata with USS pension benefits
Contract: Fixed term for 21 months until July 2025, 8.75 hours per week (25% FTE) part-time

Swansea University aims to achieve its sustainable top 30 ambition by building a skilled workforce that can excel in research, teaching, learning, and student experience. To support this goal, we are looking for a Research Assistant to join the internationalisation team in the Faculty of Medicine, Health, and Life Science.

With over a quarter of our student population being international, it is crucial to address the challenges they face, such as cultural adjustment and social integration. In collaboration with the internationalisation team, the post holder will explore common themes within the international student population. The ultimate objective is to develop a virtual reality prototype that enhances empathy towards international students through a lived experience-type model.

This two-year project, funded by the Morgan Advanced Studies Institute, will result in a VR package that immerses educators in the international student experience. As a Research Assistant, you will contribute to this project for 8.75 hours per week over 21 months.

Key responsibilities include conducting a literature review on international student experiences, performing needs assessments through focused groups, and participating in the development of the VR prototype.

You will be based at Singleton Campus, with occasional visits to the Bay Campus. As the project progresses, there will be face-to-face and online interactions with student groups and other team members.

We are looking for someone passionate about supporting international students. Essential criteria for this role include a university degree or equivalent experience, demonstrable knowledge of the international student community, and the ability to conduct research aligned with the project’s objectives.

If you are interested in this position, please submit your application via the “Apply” button above. Along with the online application, please attach your CV and provide details of your research experience, including a publication list.
