The Research Assistant position at the Cavendish Laboratory focuses on investigating cellulose-based liquid crystalline polymers and elastomers. This role is integral to a project aimed at developing new polymeric materials with anisotropic properties derived from natural polysaccharides with appropriate substitutions. Funded by an ERC Synergy grant and in collaboration with the University of Luxembourg and Nova University of Lisbon, this position offers an exciting opportunity to work alongside renowned researchers and contribute to groundbreaking advancements in material science.
As part of Professor Eugene M. Terentjev’s research group and the larger ALCEMIST team, the successful candidate will manage projects involving vibration testing and sound attenuation, in addition to managing the overall Synergy project on the Cambridge side. Essential qualifications for this role include demonstrated experience in R&D project management, with expertise in polymer chemistry and/or cellulose nanocrystals and nanofibers considered beneficial.
Key responsibilities include assisting with physical-chemistry lab work, building internal and external contacts, and effectively planning the use of research resources. The position is set to begin in March 2025 and is initially available for one year, with potential extension based on project requirements and funding.
