University of Oxford

The Bonavero Institute of Human Rights, part of the Faculty of Law, seeks a full-time Programmes Manager well-versed in contemporary human rights, the rule of law, and democracy debates within both academic and practical frameworks. This role involves managing and expanding the Institute’s programmes and fostering robust connections with practitioners and scholars in the human rights sector, both in the UK and globally.

Reporting to the Institute Director, the Programmes Manager will oversee various initiatives at the Bonavero Institute, assist the Director in enhancing current programmes, and spearhead the development of new ones. The position also offers the successful candidate an opportunity to pursue their own research.

Ideal candidates will possess a doctorate in human rights law, constitutionalism, the rule of law, or a related field, or have equivalent experience in human rights research, advocacy, or legal practice. They should demonstrate strong programme and project management abilities, including teamwork, collaboration, and career development facilitation. Furthermore, candidates should be able to represent the Institute internationally, thereby enhancing its profile and reputation. Preferably, candidates will have hands-on experience in human rights work with NGOs, international organisations, tribunals, the legal profession, or law clinics. Knowledge of key national and international research funders and proficiency in a major international language, apart from English, are also advantageous.

This is a full-time, permanent position, contingent on successful completion of a one-year probationary period.

Applications close at midday on Friday, 13 September 2024, with interviews conducted in person between 30 September and 18 October 2024.

Applicants must upload a CV and a supporting statement as part of their online application
