Professorship in Politics and International Relations

Applications are invited for a Professorship in Politics and International Relations (job title: Professor) at the University of Southampton. This appointment will support key strategic aims of the Department of Politics and International Relations, enhancing its capacity and diversity in research leadership and leadership more generally. The successful candidate will join and strengthen our thriving research, education and knowledge exchange culture.
The department has a world-leading reputation in democratic governance and global political society, political trust, democratic innovations, electoral behavior, environmental justice, global health, migration, and development. We lead in the application of cutting-edge research methods, ranging from political ethnography to experimental social science.
PAIR holds major ESRC and ERC grants, UKRI Future Leader awards, British Academy Postdoctoral and Leverhulme Trust Fellowships, and the Jean Monnet Chair in European Security Governance. The University of Southampton is in the top 1% of world Universities, one of the UK’s top 15 research–intensive universities and hosts the ESRC National Centre for Research Methods.
About the role
We seek candidates with a strong, internationally recognised academic profile in any of the areas in which we currently have expertise and who can enhance those areas.
Expertise in qualitative and/or quantitative research methods is essential.
You will deliver research-led education, undertake internationally recognised research, and work to deliver research funding. You will contribute to Department leadership in research, education, and service.

You demonstrate an outstanding reputation through sustained publication of research that has demonstrable impact.

You demonstrate ability to innovate, engage, motivate and inspire students and colleagues.
