Job Summary
The TAMIU-LBV Literacy Partnership seeks passionate and dedicated tutors to work in public schools as literacy specialists. Employment is contingent upon continued funding and clearance by partnering schools.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and Implement: Craft personalized lesson plans targeting struggling readers.
- Record Keeping: Maintain precise and up-to-date records for each student’s progress.
- Organize and Maintain: Ensure the tutoring environment is conducive to learning.
- Mentor New Tutors: Provide guidance and support to new recruits.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Experience: Prior experience as a literacy tutor or elementary teacher is advantageous.
- Enrollment Status: Must not be currently enrolled as an undergraduate at TAMIU.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Communication: Strong skills in both spoken and written English.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work well with diverse groups.
- Literacy Intervention: Familiarity with effective literacy strategies.
- Confidentiality: Must handle sensitive information with discretion.
- English Proficiency: Serve as an exemplary model of the English language.
Additional Information
- This is a temporary position, subject to the availability of funds and needs determined by TAMIU and school district agreements.
- Prospective tutors must undergo a TB test as per school district requirements.
- Candidates should have reliable transportation available Monday through Friday during school hours.
- Face-to-face interaction with students and maintaining consistent attendance are mandatory.
Compensation
- Pay rate: $11.35 per hour for up to 19 hours weekly.
