#### Job Summary:
The Professional Counselor I role, under general supervision, involves providing academic and career counseling to both individuals and groups.
#### Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
– Provide personal counseling and crisis intervention for individuals, couples, and groups.
– Engage in counseling-related activities, including maintaining records, administering and interpreting psychological tests/inventories, making referrals, and managing various organizational and administrative aspects of counseling cases.
– Serve as an expert consultative resource.
– Respond to requests for information regarding counseling services, programs, and organizational policies.
– Present to students, faculty, and staff about counseling services, programs, professional development, and other related topics.
– Assist with organizational and administrative tasks as needed.
– Offer academic and career counseling to individuals and groups.
– Consult with students, faculty, and staff about academic and career counseling needs.
– Conduct and disseminate applied research and evaluation activities.
– May publish results of research and evaluation efforts.

#### Additional Responsibilities:
– Serve as a liaison with other offices.
– Participate in committees.
– Organize and report on mental health and wellness outreach activities on campus (e.g., workshops, information tables, class presentations).
– Perform other related duties as assigned.
### Minimum Requirements:
– **Education**: Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in Counseling and Guidance, Social Work, Counseling, Clinical Psychology, or another related specialty.
– **Experience**: Practical/field placement relevant to college counseling or supervised experience related to job functions.
### Preferred Education and Experience:
– Licensure for independent practice in Texas (LPC, LCDC).
– Counseling and outreach experience in a university setting.
– Experience in veterans counseling and/or drug/alcohol counseling.
### Knowledge and Abilities:
#### Knowledge of:
– Word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
#### Ability to:
– Multitask and work cooperatively with others.
### Preferred Knowledge and Abilities:
#### Knowledge of:
– Must possess time-management, planning, and organization skills.
#### Ability to:
– Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
– Interact effectively and professionally with the university community and the general public.
– Work independently and follow through on tasks.
– Maintain confidentiality.
– Familiarity with campus-related issues (e.g., adults, women, men, Hispanic populations).
### Licensing / Professional Certification:
– Eligible for Texas Licensed Professional Counselor – Intern (LPC-I) or Texas Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).
– Must maintain licensure for continued employment.
– Must obtain licensure within 3 years of hire.

### Supervision of Others:
This position generally does not supervise employees.
### Other Requirements:
– This is a temporary, grant-funded position ending on 09/30/2027.
– Work may extend beyond normal office hours and/or on weekends.
– Requires evening and/or weekend hours and rotating on-call responsibilities as needed.
– Travel may be required.
– Position requires on-campus, face-to-face interactions and maintaining a regular attendance schedule.
### Salary:
$48,110.40 annually
