Title: Student Counselor I

Job Summary:
The Student Counselor I provides academic and career counseling to individual students and groups.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Conduct personal counseling and crisis intervention for individuals, couples, and groups.
2. Administer and interpret psychological tests and maintain counseling records.
3. Serve as a consultation resource for colleagues.
4. Respond to inquiries about counseling services, programs, and policies.
5. Deliver presentations on counseling services and professional development topics.
6. Assist with organizational and administrative tasks as needed.
7. Provide academic and career counseling to students.
8. Consult with faculty and staff regarding students in need of counseling.
9. Conduct applied research and evaluation activities and publish findings.

Additional Responsibilities:
1. Act as a liaison with other offices.
2. Serve on committees.
3. Plan and facilitate mental health outreach activities on campus.
4. Perform other assigned duties.

Minimum Requirements:
– Master’s degree in Counseling and Guidance, Social Work, Clinical Psychology, or a related field.
– Practical/field experience in college counseling or a supervised experience in a related area.

Preferred Education and Experience:
– Licensure for independent practice in the State of Texas (LPC, LCDC).
– Counseling and outreach experience in a university setting.
– Experience in veterans counseling and/or drug/alcohol counseling.

Knowledge and Abilities:
– Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
– Ability to multitask and work collaboratively.

Preferred Knowledge and Abilities:
– Strong time-management, planning, and organization skills.
– Effective oral and written communication skills.
– Ability to interact professionally with diverse populations.
– Ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and address campus-related issues.

Licensing/Professional Certification:
– Eligible for Texas Licensed Professional Counselor – Associate (LPC-1) or Texas Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). Must maintain licensure for continued employment. Must obtain licensure within 3 years of hire.

Physical Requirements:
This position operates in a general office environment.

Supervision of Others:
This position does not involve supervising employees.

Other Requirements:
– Availability to work beyond regular office hours, including weekends.
– May require travel.
– Position requires on-campus, face-to-face interactions.
– Regular attendance on campus and in the workplace is required.

Salary: $48,110 per year
