Job Overview: Director of Education, Skills and Employment Portfolio on St Helena Island

This role is a unique opportunity for an experienced senior manager in education to lead the strategic direction and improvement of the Education, Skills, and Employment Portfolio on St Helena Island, a self-governing overseas territory of the UK. As the Portfolio Director, you will spearhead educational reforms aimed at enhancing primary, secondary, and lifelong learning sectors to foster a robust educational framework on the island. This position offers not only a salary range of £80k-£90k per annum, but also an international supplement, relocation allowances, and other benefits.

Job Responsibilities:

As the Portfolio Director, you will:

  • Lead and implement the strategic vision for education on the island, working closely with the Minister for Education, Skills, and Employment.
  • Provide expert advice and engage with the Executive and Legislative Councils, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Develop and integrate educational services across various levels including primary, secondary, and tertiary education.
  • Ensure COBIS standards within schools and foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Manage complex organizational changes and effectively utilize resources to realize educational reforms.
  • Contribute to workforce, community, and capacity development beyond workplace responsibilities.

Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you should possess:

  • A level 6 degree or level 7 master’s, or equivalent, in Education or a related field, along with relevant professional qualifications in educational leadership.
  • Extensive experience as a senior manager in education, particularly in leading high-performing teams and managing strategic changes.
  • Strong communication skills to draft policies and engage diverse stakeholders effectively.
  • Demonstrated values of fairness, integrity, and teamwork.
