Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in Training Programs: Engage in a comprehensive field training program hosted by the University Police Department.
- Hands-on Experience: Shadow and assist experienced officers with daily policing activities.
- Policy Familiarization: Study and understand University and departmental policies while learning the layout of campus facilities.
- Skill Development: Gain proficiency in operating police vehicles and equipment, requiring driving skills.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience: At least two years of full-time employment.
- Skills: Must be able to multitask, cooperate well with others, and communicate effectively with all campus populations, even under stress.
Preferred Qualifications:
- TCOLE Instructor certified
- TCOLE Field Training Officer certified
Certification Requirements:
- Police Certification: Must be certified by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
- Driver’s License: Possession of a valid State of Texas class “C” vehicle operator’s license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
Physical and Other Requirements:
- Physical Fitness: Must be in excellent health and possess significant stamina.
- Additional Requirements: Will need to work beyond standard hours and weekends, pass an entrance exam, a psychological evaluation, and a physical examination. A comprehensive background investigation, including driving, criminal, and credit checks, is also required.
