Job Description:
The Trainee Police Officer, under supervision, will receive classroom instruction and on-the-job training within the Texas A&M University Police Department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Attend a field training program sponsored by the University Police Department.
2. Observe and assist qualified police officers in routine police activities.
3. Study and become familiar with Texas A&M University and University Police Department policies and procedures.
4. Learn the layout of the Texas A&M University campus, including buildings, streets, and major departments.
5. Become proficient in the use of police vehicles and equipment, including vehicle operation.

Minimum Requirements:
– Education: High school diploma
– Experience: Two years of full-time employment
– Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Knowledge and Abilities:
– Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
– Effective communication skills with all segments of the campus population.
– Ability to function under adverse and stressful conditions.
Preferred Knowledge and Abilities:
– Knowledge of TCOLE Instructor certification.
– Knowledge of TCOLE Field Training Officer certification.
Licensing/Professional Certification:
– Certified as a Police Officer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
– Must possess a State of Texas class “C” vehicle operator’s license or obtain one within 30 days of employment.
Physical Requirements:
– Must be in excellent physical health and stamina.

Supervision of Others:
This position generally does not involve supervising employees.
Other Requirements:
– Must meet minimum licensing standard requirements as set by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) ยง 217.1.
– May require working beyond normal office hours and/or weekends.
– Successful completion of the field training program.
– Applicants must pass an entrance exam, psychological evaluation, physical examination, and complete a background investigation, including driving history, criminal background, and credit history.
Salary: $21.11 per hour
