**Job Description**
**Position Overview**:
The Criminal Investigator plays a crucial role within the University Police Department, responsible for coordinating and conducting comprehensive criminal investigations while maintaining criminal intelligence under direct supervision.
**Key Responsibilities**:
– Recording and conducting preliminary investigations.
– Enforcing laws and addressing violations.
– Examining illegal or suspicious activities, individuals, and establishments.
– Compiling reports about significant crimes that might endanger the University community.
– Analyzing offense reports to identify criminal patterns and methods.

**Additional Duties**:
– Undertake investigative assignments as directed by a supervisor, ensuring compliance with laws, criminal procedures, and departmental objectives and policies.
**Minimum Qualifications**:
– Education: High school diploma or GED.
– Experience: Minimum of two years in a related field.
**Preferred Skills and Experience**:
– Capability to operate independently when required and utilize judgment during emergencies or potentially hazardous situations.
**Skills and Abilities**:
– Proficiency in multitasking and cooperative work with colleagues.
– Strong interpersonal and organizational abilities.
**Licensing/Professional Certification**:
– Must have a valid driver’s license.
– Possession of a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Basic Peace Officer License.
**Supervision**:
This position may entail the supervision of other staff members.
**Additional Requirements**:
– Completion of a psychological evaluation, physical examination, and comprehensive background check, including driving, criminal, and credit history.
– Flexibility to work varied shifts/hours, including weekends.
