### About the Particle Physics Department (PPD):
The PPD at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, part of the STFC, is one of the UK’s foremost Particle Physics groups. We delve into the fundamental particles and forces of nature, design and operate cutting-edge scientific instruments, and collaborate with international partners like CERN. Our collaborations include ATLAS, CMS, LHCb, DUNE, Hyper-K, Super-K, T2K, and many others.

### Position Overview:
The PPD has an exciting opportunity to contribute to the ATLAS experiment upgrade at CERN, tailored for the High-Luminosity LHC era. The focus will be on developing and implementing the new Level-0 Global Trigger and upgrading the Level-0 Calorimeter trigger to manage increased collision rates and intensities.

#### Key Responsibilities:
– Lead the development and integration of the L0 Global Trigger and the re-commissioning of the eFEX.
– Provide expert design recommendations to enhance operational stability and performance.
– Collaborate with UK universities and international partners to commission and operate systems within ATLAS at CERN.

#### Required Skills and Experience:
– **Qualifications:** Ph.D. in Physics or a related field, or equivalent experience.
– **Experience:** At least 3 years of postdoctoral experience.
– **Technical Skills:**
– Programming (C and Python).
– Project management.
– Real-time software development in Linux or Unix.
– Integrating and using programmable hardware for modern real-time systems.
– Handling and developing large-scale systems.
– Experience with Trigger and/or Detector Operation in Particle Physics.
– **Soft Skills:**
– Effective communication in discussions, presentations, and written documentation.
– Ability to work within an international team.
– **Special Requirements:**
– Willingness to travel within the UK and internationally.
– Ability to work in controlled radiation environments and at varying heights within electronics racks.
