OVERVIEW The Practical Training Advisor supports F-1 international students at Trine University during their Optional Practical Training (OPT) and STEM OPT periods. This role focuses on advising students on U.S. practical training regulations while ensuring accurate processing and maintenance of employment authorizations. The position also contributes to institutional compliance through SEVIS record management and service as a Designated School Official. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Advise F-1 international students throughout their OPT and STEM OPT periods – Provide guidance on practical training regulations, policies, and procedures – Support students with OPT and STEM OPT authorization processes – Manage and process practical training requests – Update and maintain practical training authorizations in SEVIS – Assist students by serving as a Designated School Official (DSO) REQUIREMENTS WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS Practical training advising is a critical service that helps international students gain professional experience while maintaining lawful immigration status. Accurate advising and SEVIS management protect both students and the institution by supporting regulatory compliance. This role also contributes to student success by helping bridge academic study and real-world employment experience.
