Position Overview:
Texas State University is seeking a dedicated International Student Support Specialist and J1 Advisor to join the International Affairs Department. This is a full-time position focused on managing the J1 Scholar Program and supporting F1 international students. The role blends administrative management with direct student support, ensuring international scholars navigate the American educational and cultural landscape effectively.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Experience as a Responsible Officer (RO) or Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for the J-1 immigration program.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. resident due to federal regulations on database access.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, expanding your academic global perspective.
  • Familiarity with the American health insurance system to assist international students effectively.
  • Competence in budget management and complex analytical skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the J1 Scholar Program, supporting both San Marcos and Round Rock campuses.
  • Provide pre-arrival and onboarding support, including cultural programming and housing assistance.
  • Offer immigration guidance to faculty regarding the J1 visa.
  • Ensure accurate maintenance of SEVIS records and prepare necessary reports and documentation.
  • Manage the ISSS Emergency Funding process and advise on financial distress solutions.
  • Support international students academically and ensure they have access to necessary resources.
  • Administer student health insurance processes and partnership with SprinTax for tax support.
