**International Student Success Coordinator**
**Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):**
– A Bachelor’s Degree (or foreign equivalent or higher) along with three years of full-time administrative experience is required. Alternatively, a Master’s degree (or foreign equivalent or higher) with at least one year of full-time administrative experience is acceptable; related student work experience may also be considered.
– Experience in the fields of international education or related areas.
– Proven experience in program development and coordination.
– Adept in student advising.
– Proficient in utilizing technology and software for student management and communication such as Peoplesoft, Slate, and Banner.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
– Master’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in a relevant field such as International Relations or International Education.
– Familiarity with systems like Peoplesoft, Slate, Banner, Terra Dotta, and/or Sunapsis.
– General understanding of international student regulations concerning F-1 and J-1 visa statuses.
– Experience in office management.
– International work or study abroad experience.
– Proficiency in a second language.
– Experience managing professional social media platforms like WeChat, WhatsApp, or Instagram.
– Skilled in using Excel, Google Sheets, and/or Qualtrics.
– Experience with data collection strategies that include detailed data analysis.
**Brief Description of Duties:**
The International Student Success Coordinator is crucial in creating a supportive and engaging environment for international students at Stony Brook University. This student-facing role demands high-level customer service and support, coordinating services and programs to enhance international students’ academic success, personal growth, and cultural adaptation. The coordinator collaborates closely with various campus departments, faculty, and staff to ensure international students have the necessary resources and support to excel. The position includes alternate working hours up to two days per week, with occasional evening, early morning, and weekend programming.
**Duties:**
*Student Support and Office Management:*
– Manage the International Student Center’s office operations, including procurement for both office and event needs.
– Assist students in comprehending and navigating university policies, procedures, and available resources.
– Hire, train, and supervise student staff to ensure exceptional customer service and student support.
– Develop print and digital marketing materials for the office.
– Ensure effective communication with students, faculty, and staff.
*Program Development and Coordination:*
– Design and execute programs and workshops to foster the academic success and personal well-being of international students.
– Coordinate orientation programs for new international students to ensure a seamless transition into the campus community.
– Partner with campus and international allies to provide cultural, social, and academic activities and presentations.
*Cultural Adjustment and Integration:*
– Promote an inclusive campus atmosphere via intercultural competence training and programming.
– Support initiatives that foster cultural exchange and understanding within the campus and surrounding communities.
– Advocate for the unique needs of international students in various campus settings.
*Compliance and Documentation:*
– Keep precise records of student interactions and progress.
– Assist in preparing reports and documents required by university administration.
*Position Focus – Outreach and Collaboration (Position #1)*
– Develop and disseminate content for social media, websites, and outreach campaigns to promote student events and activities.
– Act as a liaison between international students and campus resources, including academic departments, student services, and community organizations.
– Cultivate relationships with external entities that support international student success.
– Engage in campus committees and task forces related to international education and student success.
– Support data collection, analysis, and visualization related to international student success initiatives.
*Position Focus – Data Collection, Data Management, Analysis & Reporting (Position #2)*
– Design and implement data collection methodologies for surveys and program participation concerning international student success efforts.
– Conduct analyses of quantitative and qualitative data to pinpoint trends, challenges, and opportunities for international student success initiatives.
– Generate regular reports and presentations to guide decision-making and strategic planning for international student success initiatives.
– Develop and administer surveys to gather feedback from international students regarding their experiences and needs.
– Collaborate with campus partners to ensure accurate and relevant data collection related to international student success.
– Assist in creating and delivering social media content, website management, and outreach campaigns for student events and activities.
**Other duties or projects as required, appropriate to rank and department mission.**
**Special Notes:**
This is a full-time exempt appointment per the FLSA, thus ineligible for overtime compensation. A minimum salary threshold must be maintained to protect the FLSA exemption. In addition to the employee’s base salary, this position is eligible for an annual UUP location payment of $3,400, distributed biweekly. Evening and weekend work may be necessary on occasion.
