The starting salary for this full-time position is typically between £34,980 and £44,263, with potential for progression to £46,974 at Grade 7. The International Student Recruitment Manager at the University of Birmingham is responsible for creating and executing a strategy to support the growth ambitions of the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences and the University as a whole, with a focus on attracting international students.
As the manager in charge of international student recruitment for the College, you will need a strong understanding of the national and global student recruitment landscape in order to optimize student acquisition from key markets and expand into emerging markets. You will work closely with key stakeholders to ensure that the College achieves its targets for recruiting undergraduate and postgraduate international students.
This role involves managing recruitment activities both on campus and overseas, as well as online. You will collaborate with teams in the UK and at University offices around the world. Building and maintaining strategic relationships with partner institutions will be a key responsibility, as you will need to manage the acquisition of students through articulation agreements. Additionally, you will support efforts to recruit students for the Dubai campus and other transnational education projects.
As part of the College Student Recruitment team, you will provide leadership and expert advice, contributing to a supportive and collaborative team environment within the College and External Relations.
The ideal candidate for this position should have a degree-level education or equivalent work experience, as well as in-depth knowledge of higher education and experience working in the sector. Strong knowledge of international student recruitment and admissions is essential, as well as strategic and critical thinking skills in relation to higher education and international student recruitment. Experience in managing and delivering events, both in-person and online, is also required.
Excellent presentation skills, both in-person and online, are important, as you will be responsible for presenting to an audience in an enthusiastic and professional manner. You should also have experience working with a wide range of stakeholders and be able to influence colleagues at different levels of seniority. Sensitivity to cultural differences in international marketing is necessary, as is a high standard of written and oral communication.
Strong numeracy and computer literacy skills are important, with experience in using databases and spreadsheets for analysis and modeling, particularly with Access and Excel. Experience in budget negotiation and management is also required, as is the ability to work well under pressure and meet competing deadlines.
The ideal candidate should have proven leadership experience with excellent negotiation, diplomacy, and communication skills. Experience in supervising or managing staff is desired. Tenacity, creativity, and innovation in problem-solving are important, as is the ability to work independently while also being a team player. You should be able to develop and lead productive and effective teams, and have a strong commitment to personal development, organizational skills, and decision-making ability to handle complex situations autonomously.
Occasional work in the evenings and weekends, as well as travel overseas and nights spent away from home, may be required.
