Liverpool Hope University

Job Title: International Student Compliance Officer (Two Positions – Pre-Arrival and On-Course)

About the Job:
Liverpool Hope University is committed to creating a supportive environment for international students by ensuring compliance with UKVI (UK Visas and Immigration) regulations. To strengthen this effort, the University is hiring two International Student Compliance Officers – one specializing in Pre-Arrival compliance and the other in On-Course compliance. These positions, based in the Admissions Department and the Student Enrolment and Administration team, are crucial in maintaining the University’s compliance with the UKVI Student Sponsor Licence requirements.

The Pre-Arrival Compliance Officer role will focus on student visa eligibility, issuing CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies), and pre-arrival compliance checks, while the On-Course Compliance Officer will focus on monitoring international students’ attendance, engagement, and compliance throughout their studies at the University. Both roles are vital for ensuring a smooth experience for international students and promoting institutional compliance with UKVI guidelines. Applicants will receive training to provide cross-functional cover during periods of absence or high activity across both roles.

These are rewarding yet challenging roles best suited for individuals with an interest in regulatory compliance, a passion for supporting international education, and a commitment to delivering a high-quality student experience.

Application Advice for International Education Professionals:

If you are passionate about supporting international students and have a strong understanding of compliance in higher education, this could be your opportunity to make a meaningful contribution in an internationally-focused role. Here are some tips to strengthen your application:

  1. Understand the Role:
    • Research the UKVI Student Sponsor Licence requirements, sponsorship duties, and Appendix D guidelines before applying. Be prepared to demonstrate your knowledge of immigration compliance and regulatory frameworks that govern student visas.
    • For the Pre-Arrival role, highlight any experience in handling visa applications, CAS issuance, or working with prospective students.
    • For the On-Course role, mention any experience in monitoring student attendance, engagement, or advising students on visa requirements during their academic journey.
  1. Highlight Relevant Skills and Experience:
    • Showcase your ability to handle strict deadlines, attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem-solving abilities. Both roles require creating and maintaining accurate records and liaising with a variety of stakeholders, so strong project-management and communication skills are essential.
    • Highlight any prior experience working in higher education or with international students, particularly in areas like admissions, enrolment, compliance, or student advising. Mention any prior work with diverse populations or understanding of cross-cultural needs.
  1. Convey Flexibility and Teamwork:
    • These roles involve cross-functional collaboration and may require covering for the other Compliance Officer during high-demand periods. Emphasize your ability to adapt, work collaboratively, and remain consistent in achieving quality outcomes under pressure.
  1. Demonstrate a Global Perspective:
    • If you have experience working or studying internationally, include this in your application. It shows empathy and understanding of the challenges facing international students. Being able to support students navigating international education systems is a key part of this role.
  1. Apply Early and Specify Your Preference:
    • While applicants will automatically be considered for both roles, clearly state in your cover letter if you prefer one position over the other. Tailor your application to reflect the specific responsibilities of your preferred role.
  1. Availability During Key Activity Periods:
    • These roles are particularly demanding during the end of August and the beginning of September. Indicate your understanding of this requirement and your commitment to being available during these crucial periods.
