The Office of International Programs & Community Engagement (IPCE) is dedicated to promoting local and global engagement through various educational opportunities and interactions with students and faculty from different cultures and languages. The International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) Coordinator, reporting to the Associate Director for International Student and Scholar Services, serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) and J-1 Exchange Visitor Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) to ensure institutional compliance with US federal regulations for F-1 non-immigrant students and J-1 exchange visitors.
In addition to these responsibilities, the ISSS Coordinator also assists in administering programs and services for international students and scholars, manages the federal electronic tracking system called the Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), and monitors the interface between the College system and SEVIS. They stay updated with Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) regulations and College policies, provide guidance to international students and exchange visitors on maintaining their non-immigrant status, monitor college enrollment for F-1 and J-1 students, and communicate SEVP updates and compliance issues to students and exchange visitors.
The ISSS Coordinator collaborates with IPCE staff to achieve department goals and objectives and performs other assigned duties. The qualifications for this position include a Bachelor’s degree, at least three years of experience as a PDSO/DSO and/or RO/ARO in an office focusing on international educational exchange, strong organizational and administrative abilities, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work collaboratively, strong computer skills, experience working with diverse cultural backgrounds, and knowledge of F and J immigration regulations. US citizenship or permanent residency is required to serve as a DSO or ARO.
This position is classified as Assistant to HEO and is non-exempt from FLSA. The salary range is $62,689 to $68,245, and CUNY offers benefits including health plans, retirement/pension benefits, tuition waivers for graduate study, and generous paid time off.
