
Michigan State University Office for International Students & Scholars
The Office for International Students and Scholars (OISS) at Michigan State University (MSU) provides support services and cross-cultural programming for over 5,000 international students and 1,000 visiting international scholars annually. The Senior International Student and Scholar Advisor (International Student/Scholar Adviser II) reports to an Assistant Director and serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) for the F-1 student program and an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for the J- visa program. They provide expert immigration services and advice to international students, scholars, and academic departments regarding federal immigration regulations, immigration status, and overall immigration strategy.
As a member of the Student Advising Team, the Senior International Student and Scholar Advisor contributes to office-wide training on F regulations, maintains office practices related to student immigration issues, and collaborates with university partners on matters related to students. They also advise staff, faculty, and administration on immigration and intercultural issues and provide leadership to the advising team as needed. Additionally, the Senior International Student and Scholar Advisor coordinates public-facing services in OISS, including the department reception desk and online services. They develop policies, provide training, hire and supervise reception desk student staff, and ensure efficient and effective operation of OISS’ public facing services.
This role requires the incumbent to be on-site full-time during the initial onboarding phase (first six months) and on-site up to an average of four days a week or more during peak times on an ongoing basis.
