Job Description: International Student and Scholar Advisor
About the Role:
Northeastern University is seeking an International Student and Scholar Advisor (ISSA) for its Toronto, Canada campus. This position promises the opportunity to engage with diverse student communities across our expansive global network. Under the guidance of the Associate Director of Global Services (Canada), you will play a key role in advising international students on immigration matters and supporting their academic and cultural transition.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert immigration advice aligned with federal guidelines to students and scholars on topics such as study and work permits, visa applications for family members, and compliance with regulations.
- Develop and deliver pre-arrival support, orientation, and cultural adaptation resources.
- Administer student intake processes and monitor study permit conditions, ensuring compliance with federal and institutional policies.
- Collaborate with academic advising staff to support students’ co-op planning and academic trajectory.
- Support international student retention through the development of student services, orientations, and engagement activities.
- Facilitate communications and coordination between Northeastern campus locations globally.
Qualifications:
- Must be a Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA) or Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC), in good standing with the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC).
- A Bachelor’s degree is required, along with a minimum of three years of experience in student advising and development of student success programs.
- Demonstrated intercultural competence and experience in serving newcomers to Canada.
- Proficiency in MS Office and student learning platforms; experience with systems such as Salesforce, Banner, and Canvas is preferred.
- Fluency in other languages and international experience are advantageous.
