St. Ambrose University is currently seeking a dual International Student Advisor and Study Abroad Coordinator to support both international and domestic students. This position will be split between student engagement (50%) and study abroad/off-campus activities (50%).
In terms of student engagement, the advisor will act as a resource for international students who are adapting to the US classroom culture. They will develop strategies to enhance international students’ cultural adjustment and involvement on campus and in the community. Additionally, they will assist international students in creating study plans.
Regarding study abroad, the coordinator will provide leadership for Study Abroad initiatives and offer administrative and logistical support for related programs. They will assist faculty in creating and evaluating short-term faculty-led and other educational abroad programs. Coordinating travel, accommodation, and activities for faculty-led study abroad programs will also be part of their responsibilities. Furthermore, the coordinator will assist in managing risks associated with education abroad programs and be the main point of contact for faculty, staff, and students who are abroad. They will also advise students who are interested in pursuing education abroad opportunities.
Strong communication skills and a compassionate nature are highly valued in this position. A Bachelor’s degree and a valid US passport are required. Preferred qualifications include international travel experience, experience in university advising, admissions, marketing, or sales, proficiency in Arabic or Spanish, and familiarity with Catholic higher education. Expectations are for up to 5% domestic and international travel. Additionally, the specialist will serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).
