Company Summary:
The position of an international student advisor is available at Old Dominion University. This role requires extensive knowledge of immigration regulations and the ability to serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for the SEVIS immigration database. The responsibilities include advising students, creating and reviewing federal immigration documents, ensuring maintenance of status, and managing cultural programming for J1 Research Scholars. Additionally, the position involves insurance compliance for F & J visa holders and participation in ODU’s health insurance committee. The advisor will also serve as a backup for various other processes, including immigration presentations, PCard purchasing, and H1B advising.
Minimum Qualifications:
– Master’s degree in higher education administration, international affairs, intercultural communication, linguistics, public administration, or related field.
– Experience in working with information management software, such as Banner, Peoplesoft, ISSM, or TerraDotta.
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
– Experience working with diverse populations.
– Demonstrated ability to interpret complex policies and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:
– Experience working in a higher education setting.
– Working knowledge of visa regulations for F1 and J1 non-immigrants.
– Experience advising individual students.
– Experience with health insurance policy management.
Conditions of Employment:
To secure access to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Student & Exchange Visitor Information System, the final candidate must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. lawful permanent resident. Additionally, a criminal history check is required.
