Salary: Minimum $52,000 ANNUAL (12 months), Depending on Qualifications

Job Summary:
Join the international community at the University of Wisconsin-Madison as an International Student Advisor with the International Student Services (ISS). We are seeking two dedicated individuals to enhance our team by providing inclusive advising to international students on F and J visas. As a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO), you will guide students through immigration processes, ensuring compliance with federal regulations and UW-Madison policies. This role involves working closely with academic advisors and graduate program coordinators, contributing to the development of policies and procedures, and engaging in activities that build a supportive environment for international students.

Responsibilities:

  • Advisory Consulting (40%): Offer one-on-one consultations and workshops to assist international students with visa concerns and federal compliance.
  • Rights and Responsibilities Communication (5%): Clearly explain students’ rights and obligations.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration (5%): Partner with internal and external groups to advocate for international students, highlighting their diverse contributions.
  • Workshop Preparation and Delivery (10%): Create and present sessions on visas, employment, and immigration updates.
  • Documentation Management (40%): Efficiently handle complex immigration paperwork for students and alumni.

Tasks:

  • Manage a caseload of approximately 1,000 international students using various communication methods.
  • Foster inclusive engagement and effective communication strategies.
  • Represent ISS in meetings and collaborate with campus departments for greater student support.
  • Educate campus partners on immigration compliance and academic policies.
  • Process updates and requests for F/J students’ immigration documents.
  • Serve as a DSO and ARO, ensuring adherence to current regulations.
  • Develop and present training sessions across multiple modalities.
  • Assist with scheduling and evaluate advising services for equitable access and efficient resource use.
  • Participate in team meetings and dialogues to continually improve services.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in international relations, global education, higher education, or a related field.

Qualifications:

  • Required Skills/Qualifications:

– Experience tackling complex issues in cross-cultural settings.
– Commitment to social justice education and inclusivity.
– Strong cross-cultural communication skills.
– Efficient customer service in dynamic environments.
– Precise organizational skills with attention to detail.
– Proficiency in technology tools.
– U.S. citizenship or legal permanent residence required for DSO/ARO roles per DHS regulations.

  • Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

– Familiarity with student leadership and identity development.
– Knowledge of federal regulations for F and J students.
– Experience with Terra Dotta ISSS and PeopleSoft SIS.
– Experience living, working, or studying abroad.
– Proficiency in additional languages beside English.

Work Type:
Full-Time: 100%. Some tasks may be performed remotely depending on campus needs.
